About Resurging Communities, Inc.

Founded by visionary Erica Harper and with Tamara D. Taylor as an integral founding partner, Resurging Communities, Inc. (originally Women of God Walking in the Light Ministry – WGWLM) has a deep-rooted history of serving individuals and families facing economic hardship and at-risk youth in Richmond, Virginia and beyond. Since our inception in August 2001, our heart has always been to uplift those experiencing adversity through compassion, practical support, and community empowerment.

Inspired by a vision given to Erica Harper seven years before founding, WGWLM was established to help at-risk youth and low to moderate-income families become financially independent and strong leaders within their communities. Tamara D. Taylor has been integral to the organization’s establishment and daily operation from day one. Over time, our vision evolved to unify communities, building stronger, self-sufficient families through education, communication, encouragement, counseling, and financial support. In September 2024, WGWLM was renamed Resurging Communities, Inc., expanding our mission and reach while staying true to our core values of dignity, opportunity, and holistic well-being.

We are committed to building environments where every individual knows and understands their self-worth, has access to resources to create wealth, and can pursue healthy, positive lifestyles. Our mission is fueled by the belief that together, we can create lasting change and stronger, more resilient communities.

Today, Resurging Communities, Inc. runs impactful programs designed to meet the most pressing needs of local families:

• ELITE Youth Worldwide: Relaunching our flagship youth leadership and entrepreneurship program for at-risk teens, focused on financial education and personal growth.
• Annual Christmas Giving Program: Our signature event, providing gifts and holiday support to families in need, ensuring every child and parent experiences the joy of the season.
• Juneteenth Celebration: In partnership with Everything New Coaching & Consulting, we host an annual Juneteenth event geared toward entrepreneurs in marginalized communities or those who receive fewer resources for growth and expansion. This celebration is a time to honor victories, but also to learn, gain access to information, and connect with tools to support continued growth and expansion plans.
• Financial Assistance Fund: Supporting individuals and families struggling to pay bills or buy groceries, offering practical help in times of crisis.
• LIFE Program: Revamped to deliver life skills, financial literacy, and empowerment workshops for families seeking long-term stability.

Since opening our doors, Resurging Communities, Inc. has partnered with for-profit and nonprofit entities to help hundreds of youth and families put their lives back on track. Our legacy includes helping teenage mothers complete high school and attend college, empowering low-income single mothers to become homeowners, and providing tools for financial independence and personal growth.
